U.S. Stocks Tumble as Technology Selloff Spreads

A soft crude market seems to be hitting at exactly the worst time for the stock market.

While the tech sector declined, consumer companies and energy firms led indexes lower. Oil-and-gas companies tumbled as the price of U.S.-traded crude oil sank 6.6% to $53.43 a barrel, notching its lowest settling price since October 2017 and extending its one-month drop to more than 20%.
