Apple, Google, Microsoft, Amazon And Facebook Own Huge Market Shares = Technology Oligarchy

From the tell-me-something-I-already-know category, we see confirmed that the most well-known tech players are indeed the some of the very largest in the world as well.

Interesting to note that 3 out of 5 of these companies did not even exist more than 20 years ago. Additionally interesting to consider what industry/service will replace these guys moving forward…

  • Apple covers mainly harware tech
  • Google was software/adtech for the majority of its lifetime, and now hardware/integration
  • Good ol’ Microsoft became a king through software and now is infrastructure and hardware too
  • Amazon had us fooled for a while thinking they were an online store. Now, of course, Amazon is anything it wants to be that involves a software component and human activity
  • Facebook seems to be the only player confined to mainly software/adtech at this point

What does the market need/want? Better personal transportation infrastructure and vehicles? Better anticipation and automation of daily/weekly chores and tasks (like shopping, laundry, etc)? Even more integrated IOT devices?

Amazon, for example, owns around 50% of the e-commerce market… Apple cracked the worldwide smartphone 50% market share threshold this year… Google owns over 90% of the Internet search market. Facebook continues to dominate social media… Microsoft owns 36% of the worldwide operating system market, behind Android at 42%
